Mississippi River-world's third longest river(United States)

The Mississippi river's source begins at the Source of Red Rock, Montana and ends in the Gulf of Mexico. The Mississippi River is the largest river system in North America.About 3,710 miles long, the river originates at Lake Itasca, Minnesota and flows slowly southwards in sweeping meanders, terminating 95 river miles below New Orleans, Louisiana. The current form of the Mississippi River basin was largely shaped by the Cordilleran Ice Sheet of the most recent Ice Age. The southernmost extent of this enormous glaciation extended well into the present-day United States and Mississippi basin.

Amazon river-world's largest river by volume

The Amazon is recognised as the world's largest river by volume, but has generally been regarded as second in length to the River Nile.
The claim follows an expedition to Peru that is said to have established a new starting point further south.
It puts the Amazon at 6,800km (4,250 miles) compared to the Nile's 6,695km.The Amazon, which has the largest drainage basin in the world, accounts for approximately one-fifth of the world's total river flow.
